Myrta Rosa
Self Advocate Myrta Rosa has been an active member of CAU for 11 years and is a respected employee. Myrta works part time for CAU in the accounting department and as a Self -Advocacy Assistant for the New American Movement for People with Disabilities (NAM). Myrta is also a Board Member at CAU. Myrta has solidified her advocacy skills as a 2007 graduate of the Partners in Policymaking (PIP) program through the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities. Myrta was Vice Chair of the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities and she still serves on the Counsel. Myrta is the first vice president of Helping Hands Advocacy group. Myrta is a member of CAU advocacy group The New American Movement for People With Disabilities where she attended an 8 week training on what is a mentor and is a graduate of our Sid Katz Mentorship program. As a Jumpstart member Myrta has done presentation at schools and institutions. Myrta has met with Senators, Assembly people, Freeholders, testify at hearings, attended advocacy conferences, trainings and was actively involved in having a resolution signed by Mayor Bollllwage and the City Council of Elizabeth declaring March as Disability Awareness month for the city of Elizabeth… Myrta is extremely involved in self- advocacy with the opportunities that she has found at CAU Myrta has learned valuable employment skills as a self-advocate, a leader, mentor and an advocate for herself and for others.
